The passport week felt slow until we reused the same footnote in three stakeholder packs. I wanted more live SQL pair-programming; Meredith keeps that to office hours on purpose.
Flagship studio
Field Ledger for Product Signals
An eleven-week desk for analysts and product managers who already live in Mixpanel, BigQuery, or a warehouse clone, and still cannot agree what “active” means on Thursday.
What you will be able to do
- Issue a metric passport with grain, owner, and a platform footnote that legal will not strike out.
- Explain store-console lag in one paragraph without blaming “the data team.”
- Hold identity confidence in the weekly pack instead of flattening every client into one user_id.
- Close a reporting week with a limitation line that names what you did not measure.
Modules
1. Source inventory without theatre
You list SDKs, store consoles, warehouse tables, and the spreadsheet someone still emails on Monday. Duplicate names get retired in public.
2. Passports and banned synonyms
Each measure gets one canonical name. “Retention,” “return rate,” and “stickiness” are not allowed to swap mid-slide.
3. Time, stores, and the missing Tuesday
Review queues, timezone cuts, and partial days. You practise writing “coverage” as a fact, not an apology.
4. Identity bands
Probabilistic joins, device resets, and web cookies that never meet the app. The output is a confidence note, not a fake golden record.
5. The Thursday pack
A fixed spine: movement, coverage, disagreement, next probe. You present it twice, once to peers and once to a sceptical product lead.
Who teaches
Meredith Calne
Meredith spent a decade writing weekly packs for consumer apps that shipped on two stores and a responsive web client. She now runs the Field Ledger desk from Lincolnshire and still marks papers with a pencil.
Informational fees
A full Platform Atlas seat for this studio is listed at £1,480. A Signal Notebook (materials plus two office hours, no live cohort) is £420. Release Room add-on office hours during a launch fortnight are billed separately at £95 per booked hour. These figures describe the catalogue; this site does not take payment.
Questions we actually get
Do you cover App Store Connect finance reports?
No. Field Ledger stops at product and engagement reporting. Proceeds, tax, and proceeds-after-tax tables are a different craft; we will point you to an accountant, not pretend a metric passport replaces one.
What if our stack is not BigQuery?
Exercises ship as CSV plus SQL that runs in any warehouse with window functions. You will not be graded on a vendor certification.
Is Windows desktop telemetry in scope?
It is not. The studio is built for iOS, Android, and web. Electron or Win32 event streams would need a different inventory week.
Notes from recent desks
★★★★☆
Identity bands module. Useful. Slightly dry. Would still send a new analyst.
